Aadhaar Virtual ID is a 16-digit temporary number
Aadhaar Virtual ID is a 16-digit temporary number that serves as an alternative to the Aadhaar number. With Aadhaar Virtual ID, you can authenticate your identity without providing your mobile number or bank account details. The Virtual ID is generated from the Aadhaar number, but the Aadhaar number cannot be traced from the Virtual ID. Only one VID can be generated from each Aadhaar number. The VID is valid for at least one day and can be updated daily.
How to generate Aadhaar Virtual Number from UIDAI
- Visit the official website of UIDAI.
- Then go to the Aadhaar Service section and click on Virtual ID Generator.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and security code.
- After this, click on the ‘Send OTP’ option visible here.
- After entering the OTP, go to ‘Generate VID’.
- You can also generate Virtual ID via message.
Generate Virtual ID via SMS
From your registered mobile number, send an SMS with ‘GVID’ followed by the last four digits of your Aadhaar number to 1947. For example: send ‘GVID1234’ to 1947.

- Log in to the mAadhaar app.
- Click on the ‘Generate Virtual ID’ option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha, then click on ‘Request OTP’.
- After entering the OTP, click on ‘Generate VID’.
- You will receive your VID number.
