Jay Shah Becomes 5th Indian ICC Chairman: Know the Previous Indian Chairmen
Jay Shah was announced as the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, July 27. As he takes on this role starting December 1, he will be the fifth Indian to hold this prestigious position. Here’s a look at the previous Indian chairmen of the ICC:
Jagmohan Dalmiya
Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first Indian to become the ICC Chairman. He served from 1997 to 2000. Sadly, Dalmiya passed away on September 21, 2015.
Sharad Pawar
Sharad Pawar became the second Indian to hold the ICC Chairmanship. He served from 2010 to 2012. Before his tenure at the ICC, Pawar was the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2005 to 2008.
N. Srinivasan
Prominent businessman and co-owner of Chennai Super Kings, N. Srinivasan, was the ICC Chairman from 2014 to 2015. It was during his tenure that the position was officially renamed from “President” to “Chairman.”
Shashank Manohar
Former BCCI President Shashank Manohar also served as the ICC Chairman. His term lasted from 2015 to 2020.
Jay Shah’s Term
Jay Shah will officially assume the role of ICC Chairman on December 1, 2024. The current Chairman, Greg Barclay of New Zealand, will complete his term on November 30. Barclay, who has been serving as ICC Chairman since 2020, declined to seek re-election for a third term, leading to Jay Shah’s uncontested selection.
